SAN BLAS
Complex Logistics, Simple Experience
The hotel we work with here opened recently and operates at a standard that sets it apart from everything else in this part of Panama. We know it directly.
Getting there requires a 4x4 crossing through the mountains and a boat transfer to the islands. The logistics are real. The operators vary wildly in quality, safety, and their relationship with the Guna community.
We have done the vetting. The operator makes all the difference here.
IN PRACTICE
Early departure from Panama City — the mountain crossing is best done in morning light before the heat builds.
Private catamaran to the islands — your schedule, your group. Lunch with a Guna family, prepared fresh on the island.
The return crossing is coordinated so you arrive back in the city before dark.
Duration: Full day
Investment: from $680 for 2 guests — includes transport, catamaran, and lunch
OUR PREPARATION
We have vetted over a dozen operators. Selected a small number based on safety records, boat maintenance standards, and the quality of their relationship with the Guna community.
In San Blas, the catamaran is your accommodation on the water. We know which vessels are maintained to the standard we require — and which are not worth the risk.
We also monitor weather conditions ahead of your departure. The Caribbean can change quickly — contingencies are mapped before you arrive.
