GOLFO DE CHIRIQUÍ & COIBA

Pacific Panama, Where the Gulf Opens

The Golfo de Chiriquí sits on Panama's Pacific coast, sheltered by dozens of islands and home to one of the country's least visited marine ecosystems. Between July and October, humpback whales pass through these waters. Whale sharks appear in the deeper channels. The sunsets over the gulf are, simply, exceptional.

Most visitors to Panama never get here. Reaching the Golfo de Chiriquí requires a domestic flight to David and a private transfer to Boca Chica — and that distance is precisely what keeps it at this level.

It rewards two or three nights minimum, and the guests who commit to the journey leave with something genuinely rare.

IN PRACTICE

Flight Panama City — David (45 min) — private transfer to the Chiriquí coast (1h15) — arrival and settle in

First full day — private boat to Islas Secas or Islas Paridas — snorkeling, fishing, or anchoring somewhere with no one else around — back for sunset

Second day — deeper exploration or rest depending on your pace — optional: mangrove channels, sport fishing, outer islands

Return — private transfer David — flight Panama City

Duration: 2-3 nights recommended

Investment: from $980 per person (includes flights, transfers, accommodations, private boat access)

Extended programs including private vessel access to Coiba National Park are available — ask us.

OUR PREPARATION

The Golfo de Chiriquí has a seasonal logic worth understanding before you book.

December through March is the sweet spot — calm water, clear skies, excellent visibility for snorkeling and diving. July and August offer something different: humpback whales are present in the gulf, and the weather, while less predictable, is manageable. September and October we don't recommend — October in particular is the roughest month on this coastline, and we say so clearly.

Boat operators in this area vary significantly in quality and safety standards. We have evaluated them directly. Private access to the outer islands requires properly maintained vessels and captains who know these currents — the selection matters.

There is one property in Boca Chica that consistently delivers at the level our clients expect. That is where we base this experience.
